Most diet experts are clear: to lose weight, it is necessary to play sports. It seems logical but, as I have already explained to you, you don't increase or reduce the base weight of your car by burning more fuel, you only reduce the interval between two refueling! Exercise only makes you hungry and thirsty, so you eat and drink more.
Snails and
turtles are not seen running around, and yet there are no obese turtles and
snails. In reality, the human species and the animals it domesticates are the
only creatures that believe they have to exercise in order to exercise.
If you
embark on an exercise program in order to lose weight, not only will you not
achieve your goal, but the effect will be the same as dieting. You will see
this as a form of punishment and you will have to use all your willpower and
discipline yourself to continue. It is true that at first you will have this
wonderful feeling of feeling very virtuous, but when your willpower begins to
wane and certain other events in your life become more important, you will
forget about these good resolutions. If you don't believe me, take a look at
the classifieds of your favorite newspaper. You'll find more deals featuring
exercise bikes, cyclorameurs and God knows what other torture devices than
anything else. Do you think it's because their owners are in top shape and no
longer need to exercise, or because they've had more than enough after two
weeks?
Finally, I
will recommend that you exercise regularly, not because it will help you lose
weight, but for the simple reason that if you feel good about yourself, and if
the machine that is your body is well regulated, you will enjoy life much
better. In any case, as you lose weight and get back into shape, you will
experience the normal desire to enjoy the privilege of being able to be more
active.
A word of
warning: if you're not feeling toned right now, start gradually. You will find
that your energy levels and your form improve, you will automatically want to
take more exercise, and set off a positive chain reaction that will soon make
you feel young again. Never force it. Your body and a little common sense will
be enough to guide you. If in doubt, consult your doctor.
